EDUCATION


September 1998 – March 2007: Philosophy Doctorate in Physical Anthropology. University of Sheffield, U.K. Thesis title: “The creation of a documented human skeletal reference collection and the application of current aging and sexing standards on a Greek skeletal population”.


September 1997 - September 1998: Master of Science in Osteology, Palaeopathology and Funerary Archaeology. University of Bradford, U.K.


September 1992 - June 1997: Honours Bachelor of Science in Physical Anthropology. University of Toronto, Canada.


WORK EXPERIENCE


1999 - 2008 (ongoing): Forensic Consultant. Physicians for Human Rights – Cyprus Project. Under the auspices of the government of the Republic of Cyprus. Duties include exhumation, anthropological examination, DNA sample collection, working with the families of the missing, translation, training new team members.


June 2008 – July 2008: Researcher. History of Global Health Project, Ohio State University. Duties included the examination and recording of 112 skeletons from the Athens Collection for age and sex determination and pathological conditions.


November 2003 - December 2003: Forensic Consultant. Special Court for Sierra Leone. Member of a Physicians for Human Rights team, under the auspices of the United Nations. Duties included exhumation of mass graves, anthropological examination, evidence management, photography.


June 2003: Forensic Consultant. Physicians for Human Rights – Iraq. Member of a forensic assessment team. Duties included evaluation of Iraqi forensic capacity, mass grave assessment, photography. In addition, conducted a training session to Kurdish physicians on determination of biological profile from human skeletal remains.



TEACHING EXPERIENCE


2000 - 2005: Laboratory practicals in Physical Anthropology for undergraduate Biology students at the University of Athens, Greece. Topics included human osteology, sex determination, age estimation, palaeopathology.


2003: One-day training session on determination of biological profile from human skeletal remains to Kurdish physicians at the hospital of Sulaimaniya, Iraqi Kurdistan.


2001: Three-day seminar entitled “Anthropology for Archaeologists”. Department of Biology, University of Athens, Greece. Topics included human osteology, sex determination, age estimation.
